SPIN Farming stands for S-mall P-lot IN-tensive farming. It’s a wonderful concept, basically using any available land for crop production; perfect for the urban farmer. Crops are tucked in in backyards, side yards, shared neighbor yards. If you’re interested, check out spinfarming.com. In our case, we farm right up to our neighbor’s fence. And thus the issue that we had last Friday… Record draughts have stressed many of our plants, including long time, established trees, like on our neighbor’s property. Last Friday’s high winds proved too much for the large tree in his yard and the big giant tumbled to the ground. Luckily for him, it fell our way. Not so lucky for Rows 1 -14 on our side, but thankfully, no one was hurt. Now we are operating on Damage Control.
Rows will need to be re-built after the tree is removed. Seeds replanted; hopefully our planting window is still viable. So. Life in the city. On the Farm. Just another day…
