ELLIE MAY’S CORNER
I love it when it rains and the creek runs with water. What I don't get is all the commotion I get when I head for the couch after a splashing good time...

Tomatoes!

The tomatoes are here! They won’t last forever, so stock up while you can. Tomatoes freeze easily; just wash and core them and freeze them. (I put mine on a cookie sheet for an hour or so and them bag them, so they don’t stick together.) You’ll be so glad to have them in the winter; you’ll never have to buy canned tomatoes again. Canning is another great way to preserve the season. We had a canning party or two last year, but just this week we canned up a small batch of salsa – 7 pints. So big event or little, enjoy your tomatoes. And be sure to explore the world of heirlooms!
